Over 130 experts from about 20 countries including China, Kenya, the UK and France discussed sustainable fashion and cultural exchange during an online Sino-African forum, co-organized by Donghua University in China and Moi University in Kenya.

The event is a combination of the 2020 Sino-Africa Cultural Exchange Forum and the 5th international Forum on Fashion Communication.

Michael Stanley-Jones of the UN Alliance of Sustainable Fashion said in his keynote speech that China and Africa can move to the forefront of sustainable fashion with the right investment in natural resources and heritage, as well as a combination of innovative design and aesthetic traditions.

Meng Jian, a professor at Fudan University’s national center for cultural innovation research, called for the establishment of a communication system featuring equality, interaction and inclusiveness.

Other experts shared their views on textile technology, design and marketing as well as textile industry development after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The forum attracted more than 13,000 viewers online.
